THE UNION HOTEL SIERRA RETREAT
VACATION RETREAT HOTEL + CABINS
Get Away Together
Make Your Stay Exactly The Way You Want It
The Union Hotel Sierra Retreat cabins in La Porte, California offer a secluded escape from the pressures of modern urban life. Located in the historic Gold Rush Country, The Union Hotel Sierra Retreat is the perfect location for any size gathering.
La Porte is a tiny but mighty mountain community in the Plumas National Forest. It was first settled in 1851 during the California Gold Rush. Though the area is far less populated than in it’s gold prospecting heyday, tourism is still strong. Scenic vistas, peaceful evenings and sharing experiences are the attractions. Laporte also offers a general store, deli, saloon, and a museum.
The Union Hotel, established in 1855, is the cornerstone of the historic town of LaPorte. Standing proudly throughout the days of the Gold Rush, the Great Depression, and the prosperity of recent times, the Union Hotel has long been the meeting place of choice for groups, friends and families.
The Union Hotel was first built by the Murray family in 1855 and opened at its current location at Kittis Hotel. It was renamed The Union Hotel in 1860, in honor of the local Union soldiers.
The original hotel was destroyed by fire, and the current structure was built in 1906. The only remaining portion of the original structure is the brick safe, which in its day stored the gold discovered in the area. The safe still stands in the center of the hotel.
